Lamanai Maya Ruins & Jungle River Safari

Tour Description

Arguably the most interesting Maya Ruin in Belize, Lamanai (also known “submerged crocodile”) is a treat for all adventure and culture seekers. Situated on the banks of the New River Lagoon and bordered by an untouched rainforest, Lamanai is the second largest Pre-classic structure in the Maya world and is located in the Orange Walk district.

Lamanai was first occupied by the Mayas around 1500 BC and was occupied for more than 3,000 years until 1,650 AD. Over 35,000 Mayas were said to have lived on the site.

On your excursion, you will come across the most talked about temples on site; these are the Mask Temple, the High Temple and the Jaguar Temple. Those brave enough to climb the High Temple will be awed by the panoramic view that awaits these adventure seekers. The archeological site offers a one of a kind experience into the culture of the Maya and the organic multiplicity of the tropical rainforest. As you walk along the trails, you might see the howler monkeys that have made Lamanai their home. Furthermore, the Marshlands are home to countless different kinds of water birds and wildlife, crocodiles being one of them.

Exiting in the site, you can continue your exploration of the Mayas by visiting the on-site museum, where you will find quite an amount of artifacts portraying the Maya gods and animals. Then relax and snack underneath the shade in the picnic area of the park. A one of a kind adventure awaits you at the Lamanai archeological site!
